In
1998 the then Sunshine Coast Minisprints Club
started Gatton speedway later the club changed to
Lockyer Valley Speedway Assoc. Inc... Situated at
Gatton showgrounds in the middle of the Lockyer
Valley, 1 hour west of Brisbane, the area is
regarded as the salad bowl of Australia. Since then
the area has grown dramatically. Gatton Speedway
has grown also being restricted only by having a
timber fence. The largest class of vehicle that can
race there are the dwarf cars and mini sprints. The
track is 536 meters of decomposed granite, with 12
meter wide pole line, and a large pit area.
Currently the
speedway promotes micro sprints, mini sprints, dirt
karts, speedway karts, dwarf cars, solo’s
and side
cars and also displays by classic and vintage
speedway cars. In 2005/ 2006 successfully promoted
the Australian solo title and Queensland micro
sprint title. In 2006 /2007 Gatton speedway
successfully promoted the Australian Micro Sprint
Title. Plans are under way to move the
Gatton Show
Grounds and with that, Gatton Speedway is moving
with them and hopes to have a state of the art
concrete fence and speedway, and to be open to most
speedway divisions.
Gatton
Speedway is the birth place of Dwarf Cars in
Australia, with only 6 cars in 2000 to over 25 in
2007 and is spreading Australia wide.
